Cheers to Canada

Cheers to Canada for a hosting a great winter games!

Cheers to all Canadians including my buddy Sir Redford - who probably had nothing do to with the games. But I don't care, anybody who makes his blogger icon his national flag has something to be proud of.

I have lot cooking under the covers which hasn't been showing up this blog lately. So if you think this blog has been a snoozefest lately - I dont blame you. But stay tuned because some day, somehow, it will all come out. But for now the words of the Canada national anthem....

O Canada!

Our home and native land!

True patriot love in all thy sons command.

With glowing hearts we see thee rise,

The True North strong and free!

From far and wide, O Canada,

We stand on guard for thee.

God keep our land glorious and free!

O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

  1. Chris, you would make a better Canuck than me! I was actually pulling for the US in the final hockey game, for Brian Burke's sake who lost his son in a car crash a few weeks ago in Michigan. The son, who was a sports manager for one of the teams at his college, had recently come out of the closet and announced his gay status on national TV. His tough-as-nails father, Brian, stood proudly with him. Amazing that Brian could get over the loss of his son and contribute so much to the US team. In addition, the coach of the US team, Ron Wilson, coaches in Toronto. He's a class act too. In any case, the game was so even that it's a shame that both teams didn't get the gold. Hockey at it's best, without the interminable and degrading fighting you see in the NHL.

Anyway, back to Fx. After working with several robots in the past month, and doing well in demo accounts, I'm still not convinced that robotic EA's are the answer. Simply put, as they exist today they are not very adaptable to rapidly changing trading environments.

The output of commercial EA's has gone up exponentially in the past year, and I expect this to accelerate because really Fx is a relatively unkown retail market. Certainly it is nowhere near as saturated as the stock markets, and it has the additional benefit of trading around the clock, with big time leverage. As time goes by, the boy geniuses with their Ph.D's will be pumping out EA's like crazy and the sophistication level is bound to rise as well. So it portends the day when the market action will be smoothed by the trading carried out by the wide array of EA's all trying to capture a piece of the profit pie. I can imagine thankfully scalping for a couple of pips one day, the action will be so controlled by robots!

One of the messages of this EA boom may be to find a few less well known EA's to trade with, and when they do become well known, then look for something else. There isn't the slightest doubt in my mind that EA's used by the masses will defeat themselves before long. So we should be looking to modify the ones we like to suit another niche in the market place (such as different trading hours). We gotta keep it fresh.

One of the side effects of this EA boom will be the expansion of signal services, IMO. The masses are swarming to the EA side of the boat now, which leaves openings for the really good signal services, those human experts who advise clients when and what to buy, with stops and targets, throughout the trading day. I've come across a couple lately that deserve mention. Now I haven't tried them yet, and may not, but if their legitimate appearing claims can be believed, these guys may be providing exactly what some of us would have, rather than worrying about robotic EA's. There are a lot of charlatans out there, but these two rise to the top of my ratings.

  2. Redford-

Thanks for the comment - I missed the Hockey Game due to a local power outage but was back for the closing ceremonies.

You're right - its going to be interesting to see where the robot industry goes. I agree, robots that all trade at the same time for every robot customer and bound to defeat once they reach a certain size.

That leads us toward the path of taking a popular EA, decompiling it and trying to figure out how it works. From there you can modify its behavior and you can end up with something unique.

Regarding the signal service, I'm reluctant to get involved with any signal service involving a a 3rd party after what i've been through with Zulutrade. So let us know how you make out fxringleader and mmedge.

    Thanks for the comment.
